Half-hardy Annual. Bushy annual with tassel-like spikes of usually red blooms that commonly grow to be 18 inches long! These distinctive blooms appear in summer and fall. Due to its striking and brilliantly colored flower tassels, it is usually planted as the focal point in a bed and also makes a good container plant. The tassels can be dried and used in autumn arrangements. In dry periods, water regularly to ensure good bloom production and a longer bloom period. 'Atropurpureus' is the purple-flowering variety and 'Viridis' has green flower tassels. Will self-sow.
