Hardy Annual. Named for the explorer Captain William Clark of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition. Annual native to the western United States. This hardy annual requires little moisture after it becomes established, but will need even moisture during germination and early growth. A showy four-petaled bloom of pink, white and red is highlighted by leaves which are spiked and a deep green. Blooms appear in late spring and early summer. Pinching out the growing tips will encourage bushier growth. C. amoena does not transplant well, but will readily self-sow. Have been hybridized for garden use into double-blossomed and dwarf forms.
