Hardy Biennial. Perennial, grown as a biennial. This spectacular woodland wildflower is ative to Great Britian. Plant seeds up to two months before frost for blooms the following spring and summer. Seeds need light to germinate. Bell-like flowers with purple or white spots inside are borne in racemes on tall stems. The foliage is evergreen in mild climates. Prospers in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil but will need part-shade in hot climates. Snails and slugs may be a problem. Perennial species exist, such as D. grandiflora, Yellow Foxglove.
