Plant Type: Perennial Hardy Perennial. This easy-to-grow plant is called lady's mantel because of the resemblance of its round, crimped leaves to a lady's cape. A clump-forming perennial with soft, gray-green, fan-shaped foliage. When water beads up on the leaf hairs it creates a jewel-like effect unequaled by any other perennial. Cut to the ground if foliage becomes tattered - your plants will quickly produce a new set of leaves. These plants will often self-sow and you should remove spent flowers if this becomes a problem. Divide overgrown clumps in spring or sow fresh seed outdoors in summer. There is now an 'Improved Form' available which is neater, more upright, and has larger, longer-lasting flowers than the more frequently found variety. Suggested companion plantings include Iris and Astilbes. |
