Hardy Perennial. This is a summer-blooming perennial with flower heads of up to 10 inches in diameter. In addition, the flowers are composed of 50 or more star-shaped silvery-pink florets. This is a fine cut flower and excellent for drying as it will retain its good looks for years. In general, the planting depth of the bulb is 3 times the diameter (about 5 inches for this species). Bulbs should be planted in the fall or late spring. The allium genus is a poor plant if it is not combined with other perennials because the foliage dies during or immediately after the bloom period and this can lead to gaps and empty areas in the garden. Planted in masses, the flowers produce a pink cloud effect that is dramatic against an evergreen background.
