Tender Perennial. One of the stars of the fall flower garden, providing color, texture and an endless list of cultivars to choose from. Dahlias are fleshy, bright, flowery plants for bedding or cutting. Their shapes, sizes and colors are immensely varied. Yellow, orange, red, pink, white, deep rose, violet or puple including many bicolors. Dahlias need rich, deeply cultivated soil that is moist and never dries out, along with regular feeding during the growing season, to provide you with the best performance and flower production. Tubers need to be dug and stored over winter after plant tops have died back in autumn. Gaps may be filled with smaller plants such as alyssum or violas. Dwarf varieties are superb in window boxes, pots and flower beds.
