Plant Type: Perennial Perennial. Flower spikes hold large clusters of clear, yellow flowers with long, red stamens that bloom and remain very fragrant all summer. The leaves are a medium gray-green, large and tropical looking. This tender perennial will grow to a height of 6 feet in the right conditions which include rich, moist soil. Remove faded flowers by the stem and cut to the ground. Tubers should not be divided when dormant, but in early spring. The Garland Flower will tolerate some drought and in the south partial shade is recommended. To grow in cooler climates, rhizomes must be dug and stored over winter. Also, this perennial may be grown as a houseplant as long as it has even moisture. Indoors, grow in filtered light and after flowering, reduce watering. |
