Hardy Perennial. Hardy Gloxinias add a bright splash of color to the border or rock garden. The flowers are a bright magenta with yellow throats and are held above the light green fern-like foliage on stout stems. Deadheading will encourage new blooms. The leaves appear at about the same time as the flower. Crowns must be protected in winter with mulch or compost or they may be lifted and stored over the winter in a cool, dry place. The roots of the Hardy Gloxinia are tough and difficult to divide.
