Plant Type: Perennial Hardy Perennial. This is a parent plant to many modern hybrids, but this species will never go out of style. Its distinctive red and yellow blooms continue to delight and satisfy gardeners across the United States. This genus containing 60-70 species is named after J.J. Kniphof, a German professor who lived in the eighteenth century. Kniphofia uvaria was introduced into cultivation in 1705. Divide clumps after they are large and well-established. These fine perennials need shelter from winds and require soil that is very well-drained. Winter wet will cause the roots to rot. Mildy drought tolerant. |
