Hardy Perennial. A hardy and drought-tolerant perennial that has naturalized throughout North America. This is an outstanding selection for hot, humid climates and is grown as an annual in the far North. The flowers are colorful and have a lot of personality. The elongated center seed cone that is surrounded by brightly colored petals looks like a Mexican sombrero, hence the common name. Blooms are long-lasting and make an excellent cut flower, keeping for 5 to 10 days in water.
