Get hot water quickly to faucet

(related column topic links - (560, 807)

Thousand of gallons of water are wasted down the drain by each family every year just waiting for hot to reach a bathroom or kitchen faucet. There are several ways to get hot water very quickly to a faucet therefore wasting much less water - change your water usage habits or install a rapid hot water kit.

Since most houses have only one or two hot water pipe branches throughout the entire house, once hot water reaches a bathroom faucet, the entire branch has hot water. Any other hot water faucet you turn on will have hot water quickly. To save water, try to do several hot water consuming tasks consecutively before the hot water in the pipes has time to cool down.

You can also install a rapid hot water kit. These kits have a small pump that moves the hot water to the faucet quickly. A special valve redirects the water back into the cold water side instead of down the drain. Some models start on demand for hot water and others use a timer to keep hot water at the faucet.
